For the context, assume course C1
is the course
corresponding to a class (also called a section) to be enrolled
in. Assume course C2
is a course listed in a
prerequisite or corequisite requirements of C1
. Note that
C1
may have additional prerequisite or corequisite
requirements.
C2
is a prerequisite requirement, then the
requirement is satisfied by one of the following means:
C2
is taken within the Los Rios district, and a letter
grade of “C” or better is earned.C2
is taken outside Los Rios,
and a prerequisite challenge petition is recommended.C2
is a corequisite requirement, then it can be
treated as a prerequisite requirement and satisfied using the same
mechanism. In addition, it can also be satisfied as follows:
C2
in the same semester as the enrollment of
C1
.C2
in the same
semester as the enrollment of C1
, and a corequisite
challenge petition is recommended. The petition is available as a PDF. All fields should be filled in, and an attachment should be included to support the checked item(s) of “step 1” on the form. If no additional material is included to justify the checked item(s) of “step 1”, the petition cannot be processed.
Read step 2.
Once you have a petition prepared, save a copy of the files. Then, send the files as attachments to the STEM-Math/CIS division. Consider carbon-copying the instructor in this email as proof that the petition is submitted.
The pre/co-requisite requirements of a course is listed in the catalog as well as the schedule. It is the responsibility of the student who attempts to enroll in a class to officially meet these requirements.
Students who do not meet the pre/co-requisite requirement(s) of a course cannot stay enrolled in a class. It is a courtesy of the instructor to provide a grace period for students to file the petitions and get the recommendations from the departmental review process.
As a result, a student should file pre/co-requisite challenge petitions as soon as possible. Except for adds after the beginning of a semester, the petitions should be filed prior to the beginning of the semester.
The grace period is the amount of time that an instructor permits students who have not met the pre/co-requisite requirements to remain enrolled in a class.
The length of grace period depends on many factors. For example, in a class where there is a long wait list of students who have met the pre/co-requisite requirements, an instructor may choose a shorter amount of time.
