1 Downloading and installing

Download KDEnLive, then install it. In Windows, use the “standalone” version if the system is locked down from software installation.

2 Project type

A “project” consists of the source material and the video editing. You can start a new project using “File | new.”

In order to start a new project, you will be prompted for the “profile”. A profile is a group of settings that work well together for a specific type of video output.

Unless you are working with very specific source material, the default “HD 1080p 29.97 fps” setting work well for most applications.

4 Collecting the material

Kdenlive is an editor that can be used to create video files from video, audio and image media sources. Drag and drop files into the “library” window (upper left corner in “Editing” mode).
